“We were lucky enough to be introduced to Spin through Refresh Renovations. We were a bit nervous about showing our 1950's built, 70's extended house in Laingholm as it was tired and needed TLC. We knew it had potential, but didn't have the skill to see how... and we desperately didn't want it turned into a white box!

Enter Paul and Nicole. We were presented with ideas that felt like they listened to how we live. There was room for us to add and subtract in the plans as the budget allowed. I remember the day we met to view the ideas, and the Spin team suggested we reverse our lounge layout. We looked at each other and said "why did we never think of that!". That evening, I moved it around and felt so excited to embark on this project.

My first and biggest project was to design my loft conversion and have it furnished in a way that allowed the space to be used in multiple different ways – it was to become a guest bedroom/suite but with additional facilities.

“Nicole worked with us to reconfigure a problem area in our house
- a pokey bathroom, laundry and bedroom which had never functioned well, lacked storage space and were unattractive.

She was able to think outside the square and came up with a very clever redesign solution that overcame all the issues
- a very minor expansion of the footprint expanded and modernized the bathroom, gave the bedroom a decent-sized wardrobe and more useable floor space, and produced a very functional hidden laundry. We had looked at this area ourselves for years and could never see an answer.

Nicole also designed a new kitchen to replace a dated one and again came up with a clever and innovative design that expanded storage space and enhanced functionality.

“I've had the pleasure of utilising the services provided by Spin Design, for a complete project managed package from start (multiple design concepts) and right through to the completion of my bathroom and WC remodel job in 2017. This review comes quite a few months after the job was complete. This allowed a good amount of time to appreciate the final product, to enjoy the functional and aesthetically driven concepts from design to build and there were no call backs needed. “In May 2016 we embarked on a major renovation of our 1948 ex-state house in Auckland including addition of a second storey and completely gutting and redoing the original structure.

We’re thrilled with the outcome. In the design phase, Paul and Nicole listened to what we wanted to achieve and provided a perfect balance of doing what we were asking, while drawing on their expertise to suggest changes to our thinking. They were also very patient as we changed our minds a few times on our way to final drawings!

They then handled all planning requirements, right down to managing a sensitive issue with a neighbour where we needed their consent. As we needed to move out for the duration and weren’t staying close by, it was a great comfort knowing that Paul and Nicole were on hand to keep an eye on things when we couldn’t.

“My home had not had any work done in over 20 years, so it required remedial work as well as renovation work.

Paul came up with ideas I loved, I came up with some ideas he loved (he had the most ideas by far).

We started with a budget. As work progressed I changed some things (and he didn’t even roll his eyes at me, at least not that I noticed), he changed some things…
and the end cost was still within the original quote. I thought my changes were going to blow out the cost, so I was very surprised and happy that did not happen.

Nicole was also awesome. She helped me with curtains and a sofa.

On our initial project Paul gave the most detailed and in depth quote for a bathroom renovation and made it an easy choice to proceed with him for the work. Though it wound up having to be done at a very tricky time of year in order to prepare the house for sale, right before Christmas, it came in on time and on budget.
